Retail Perspectives – special edition retail averages
Australia’s Large Shopping Centres Come Clean.
The 2010-11 edition of the Urbis Retail Averages for both regional and sub-regional shopping centres is now available. This is the latest edition of Urbis’ annual survey of Australian shopping centre performance, which has produced industry benchmarks for turnover, turnover per sq. m and other key metrics since 1992.
The 2010-11 edition is compiled from data submitted for 57 regional centres and 167 sub-regionals. It includes separate tables for the top 10 regionals by turnover and the other regional centres. As is customary, data was also collected from several centres that were ultimately excluded from the Averages. Centres are excluded when they undergo major redevelopment or other change that temporarily causes atypical performance levels. Despite these exclusions, coverage of suburban regional shopping centres in the Urbis Retail Averages is very high. It is also sufficiently high for sub-regionals as to represent a highly practical guide to the performance of the sector on a category-by-category basis.
