National Urban Policy presents robust vision for Australian cities – but will it “stick”?
The Commonwealth government’s recently released National Urban Policy outlines a range of initiatives designed to promote long-term urban growth and productivity.
A key feature of the National Urban Policy is the series of measures put forward to tackle urban congestion which nationwide is estimated to cost up $17 billion per annum in lost productivity.
While the Our Cities, Our Future document is laudable in intent,question marks linger around the extent to which it can be implemented – given the governance of cities ostensibly falls to State and local governments – not the Federal Government.
