Urbis was engaged to assist Rio Tinto Alcan (RTA) to establish new residential housing typologies on a parcel of land at Duyfken Crescent, Weipa. The project included the initial preparation of a range of subdivision options for the parcel responding to the local context and planning requirements. A housing typology study then underpinned exploration of alternative housing product, considering the existing building setback and private open space requirements as well as architectural type, dwelling size, lifestyle requirements (such as car and boat storage), capturing views, maximising amenity and sustainability initiatives. A subdivision options and yield study built on the work completed in the typology study, and in conjunction with engineering assessment defined the eventual subdivision design.
Ultimately Urbis will be seeking approval of the subdivision from the Weipa Town Authority to realise a new supply of housing for RTA Weipa.
