The project comprises a detailed assessment of the region’s demographics with a focus on future RTA workforce predictions in the context of the regional population and employment projections. This component serves to develop an understanding of the nature and quantum of housing demand to be experienced in the short and long-term.
Secondly, and in response to Weipa’s uniquely constrained development area, the project seeks to develop new housing typologies, responding to established character and the residents’ desires. Components included development of innovative approaches to land use zoning, and design and operational approaches to short-term accommodation.
The third phase of the project is the preparation of subdivision designs and completion of development approvals for two tranches of land, designed to accord with new typologies and securing appropriate housing supply for the short-term needs of the community.
