The principal goals of the Duhaira district Masterplan included:
- creating a new City Centre for Riyadh having significance at both the city and regional level;
- re-activating the spaces and buildings with variety and character;
- attracting users, GCC tourists and Saudi residents into the District, enhancing the commercial value of the land; and
- delivering feasible and realistic growth based on phasing.
The district has a distinctive urban pattern that integrates a traditional street grid with a contemporary curvilinear street form. Perimeter relationships are respected and opportunities exploited. The urban design approach promotes sustainability, high quality amenities, safety and extensive shading of public pedestrian routes.
